Education & Stereotypes (Kinda on the Ranting side of things sorry)

So I've decided to go to college!! eeeek! yea I know I'm super scared. But I think if I can handle all the bills on my own and supporting my boyfriend and myself after his recent job loss that I can totally handle college. & if I can put up with the bull**** at my current job and still have a job at the end of the day I can tackle a text book right? It's been on my mind for quite a while now. I've decided to set up and appointment and see where that leads me. The more I look into t the more I can actually see my dreams becoming a reality, and I'm actually kinda excited.

Anyways. Someone else on my mind lately. Have you ever mentioned that fact that you crochet or knit and the first word out of someones mouth is "grandma"? It really irritates me. There nothing wrong with an older woman or MAN that crochets for that matter. BUT that doesn't mean all of us are in our 60's & 70's. I'm 21 & I crochet, and I ENJOY it! Just thought I'd throw that out there. I don't like the way everybody assumes that it's an older persons craft. I don't care if your 6, 16, 25, or 80. Or the assumption that it's all granny squares and muted colored afghans that smell like moth balls. If you don't crochet and have had that stereotype in your head. I encourage you to do your research. Google crochet, visit the amazing blogs. Go to Crochetville! Take a class. YOUTUBE it. Or at least try to understand that just because I crochet doesn't mean I have 50 cats and live alone. I will no longer be forced to be embarrassed to take a project to work. It's part of who I am. Let me hand you my hook and see if you can do it. Then call me grandma one more time

If you read my rant Kudos!

25 Reasons to LOVE crochet.

1. It taught me patience

2. You can crochet ANYTHING

3. Because I can take it with me anywhere.

4. Crochetville, enough said...

5. I get to correct people who swear they used to knit, and tell them that I am crocheting.

6. I love color and crochet knows no boundaries when it comes to color

7. It's something I'm good that, that I truly enjoy. I mean how many people have a hobby that can make gifts, kill boredom, keep people warm, make dish cloths, bags, jewelry, hats, and sometimes even be functional??

8. It gives me something to talk about and is a great ice breaker from the typical 21 year old conversations it makes me stand out.

9. I can make the same blanket in different colors and switch up a square here and there or a stitch every other row and nobody could ever tell it's from the same pattern.

10. Because otherwise I'd have a lot of explaining to do about all that yarn in my closet!

11. It makes me feel good when people say "I wish I could do that"

12. The blanket I'm working on can keep me warm while I making it.

13. I can usually make a quick gift from my stash and not spend a dime

14. Because of crochet nights with Erin and drinks. Two tipsy hookers :-D
